Dr John Estens

MBBS, B(Med) Sci, FRACS (Orth), F.A. Orth. A

Dr John Estens is an orthopaedic surgeon with an interest in foot and ankle surgery (for which he has subspecialty training), lower limb joint replacement, adult and paediatric trauma and clinical education.

Dr Estens grew up in north-west NSW. He obtained a B(Med)Sci at Sydney University, and a MBBS at the University of Queensland. He completed his orthopaedic training in the Hunter New England network and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in Jan 2016.

Dr Estens completed a local fellowship in foot and ankle surgery, and also travelled to Bordeaux, France to complete a fellowship in minimally invasive and percutaneous foot and ankle surgery at Hôpital Pellegrin, under the guidance of Dr Olivier Laffenêtre. His training in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery provides advantages for his patients in terms of less tissue disturbance, rehabilitation and a shorter hospital stay. 

He also completed a short fellowship at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide, in paediatric orthopaedics.

Dr Estens provides honest and individualised advice. He is a VMO at the Maitland Public Hospital and consults at the Maitland Orthopaedic and Rehab Specialists Centre in East Maitland. He also consults at the Lake Macquarie Specialist Suites in Gateshead. He operates at the Maitland, Warners Bay and Lake Macquarie Private Hospitals. He attends emergency patients through the Lake Macquarie Private Hospital Emergency Department.
